Garmin problem/question
« on: September 25, 2015, 09:22:00 PM »
I'm curious if any of you have seen a similar problem and what if anything you did about it.  I have a Garmin 530 hcx that I am very pleased with.  But I noticed a crack in the casing near the upper right corner of the battery pack.  I pointed it out to my brother in-law who pulled his out and noticed a crack at each of the top corners near the battery on his.  They both work fine, just odd to see the cracks as this will compromise watertight integrity.

I have 2 batteries out of my 520hcx sitting in front of me. Should be the same battery as yours. No cracks anywhere on either 1.

HTF,

It's not the battery that cracked.  It's the back of the Rino at the corner of the battery area.  I will get a pic and try to post it up so folks can see.

Maybe you can see the black hairline crack that travels from the talk button up the edge of the back.  It goes down into the battery well.  My bro-in-laws has that crack and one straight across from it.

Dab a little glue to seal and go with it.

Seal it and make sure that you don't get water into it! My 530 got some good ol H20 in it last year. The only place I can figure out where it came from was a small hairline crack at the top of the unit. That 530 is deader than dead. Nothing I did could fix it, and Garmin no longer fixes them.

My thought exactly.  Super glue here I come.  I was hoping someone might have an idea of the proper type of glue to use.  I don't want to compound the problem by using the wrong glue.

And Garmin informed me they don't want to hear about it.
