Any tips for packing mountain house?

Any tips for packing mountain houses? The packaging they come in is so load they I would rather not pack them into the elk woods? Anyone ever opened them and put them In zip lock bags?

I know several that vacuum seal them, but I never do as I use them as intended by cooking in the bag. Never had an issue with an elk hearing them either. Usually they get dumped off at camp anyhow.

The only thing I do is round off the corners with scissors before packing them.

You won't be throwing down on your mountain house when surrounded by a herd. I wouldn't worry about it. Ounce counters will repackage them but I wonder how they cook them.

use to have them alot we packed a single burner to heat water was good when cold

Ive heard of people taking them in ziplocs but taking one package to cook them all in. This could save some space and ounces but Im not sure about noise...i would think a stove heating water would cause more than the package. Unless youre talking about them moving around in your pack, in which case pack them tighter and in something so they dont move around.

When your with in 50 yards of elk I'd recommend just having a candy bar 

The noi s e has never been an issue for me and the pro packs eliminate the bulk

Biggest tip about mountain house is finding ways to avoid them

I put mine in Ziplock now. I hate the big pile of garbage they make packing out. I've done it with about 20 meals now and not had a problem.  Makes a great hand warmer before you eat

I leave them in the mountain house containers.  I tried ziplock bags once and the freeze dried had poked holes in the ziplock.  Didn't notice until I poured hot water in it.  If you don't use a meal, they will keep for several years in the mountain house containers.  They go stale in ziplock.

I use the Ziploc quart freezer bags too.  never had an issue with puncture.  If you're worried about it, pack an extra Ziploc bag and double bag it for cooking.

I've been repacking into Ziploc quart bags for years and heating in the same Ziploc without any issues. I keep the desicate pack with the good while in the Ziploc. Less space packing in and as garbage packing out and less hassle as garbage. I've carried over meals in Ziploc from one year to the next without any issues.
