Question for Radsav
« on: September 27, 2015, 09:35:43 AM »
I'm shooting 408gr gold tip XT Hunters about 305 fps. I'm using 100gr Muzzy trocars, they shoot great but I want to switch to your Savora Del Mastros'. My question is which one should I shoot and why? The LPV 1" cutting diameter or the HPV 1 3/16 cutting diameter. I'm leaning towards the HPV for the bigger cutting diameter. I guess what I'm wondering is what kind of performance differences there would be between the two, speed, accuracy, blood trail etc. Anybody else with an opinion on this would be appreciated. Hunting Deer and Bear mostly.

Well here's the sweet thing about them.  Both blades will work on the same ferral.  Buy a pack of each and see what blades work better for you.

I have been using the VanDyke which is the solid blade rather than vented. Fly perfect and killed a caribou and bull elk so far.  D Rock also punched two tags with his Savora.

I would go with the 1 3/16 diameter, but I like wider holes.  I'm using the TiCons this year, they are 1 1/8".

Van Dyke blades leave big holes and plenty of blood.

Sorry, I was in Hell Utah trying to find a miracle when wind is at your back no matter what direction you walk!  Special place in hunters hell for that crazy vortex. :chuckle:

DelMastro LPV or HPV is all about personal preference.  LPV is going to fly better in cross wind and penetrate a little better.  HPV will give a larger entry/exit wound.  On tough to penetrate shots or animals the LPV will give a better chance at two holes.  From a terminal ballistics stand point the additional 0.031" from axis really means very little in killing efficiency.  What benefit works better today likely will be the exact opposite tomorrow.

Cutting diameter of the DelMastro LPV is 27% larger than a 12 gauge bore.  That's big!  Only seems small when looked upon with visual relativity to the 1-3/16" HPV (for reference that's 38.6% larger than a 12 gauge bore).

Whichever turns your crank will be the right choice!  Personally I like the LPV.  Del on the other hand prefers the HPV.  Hard to go wrong either way with your set-up.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
