Pheasant Killer
« on: September 28, 2015, 11:58:50 AM »
Well a dog trainer I know caught this mink in his Pheasant Pen.  :yike:  Darn thing got in through a real small hole and killed six roosters before he caught him.  He told me he seen it running around trying to get out.   He was going to shot him but figured he would get one or two of his birds, so he caught him in a fish net and step on it head.  Finish off this killer for sure.

Weasels are another problem for him where he has his birds, I have caught several weasels in and around on the outside of his chucker pen.   As a dog trainer and he is a good one, he has pheasants, chuckers, quail, and pigeons all of the time so he can work your dogs into shape.  He feels that you need fresh and live birds all of the time.  Some dog trainers use dead birds but he says if you use live birds your dog keep their interest

Before I sold my ADC business, I have caught; mink, weasels, opossum, skunks, raccoon, fox, coyotes and even bobcats in chicken coops, duck and game bird pens.  I remember one job that I did were a weasel got into this pheasant / quail pen barn and killed 87 pheasants and something like 125 quail in two days before I caught um.  Cost of those birds were something like $3,500.00.  Most of the pheasants it killed were silver and golden pheasants that bring big busks to the raiser.

Probably lucky it didn't....

One mink killed 16 of 25 of our chickens last Spring in one night.  Traoped him in the coop the next night and shot the little crapper.  War on mink this winter.
