Turkey Talk
« on: September 28, 2015, 06:04:32 PM »
Fall is on the way... Went to the NE corner of WA to chase birds around for fall hunt. First time doing a fall hunt, learned a lot. I will share 1. They are in large groups saw over a hundred birds in 3 days.
2. They are all on private land drove me crazy.
3. Good luck.
So on the 9th my Dad & my son are going to Springdale on private land to go get some birds. When I went in spring had a blast chasing them around Colville way more active in the woods during spring then fall (no birds killed). So got a blind we are going to set up never used one. I got pics sent from property owner with turkeys on edge of woods & field so hope blind works out. I will give up date on how we do time to fill these tags....
Thanks for reading like it says in subject Turkey Talk.

Side note: wish they were in the woods on public land vs private whats up with that?????

I hunted hard for three days in the woods up in Colville & nothing in the woods. They all would walk out onto private land then head back into woods & be gone till evening back onto private land. I did soft calls,  a lot of sitting & waiting don't get it. Any tips would be great? But do look forward to the private land hunt in Springdale.

Keekeeruns and Hen Assembly calls  (or even Gobbles) can yield results ... or pattern and set up an ambush ... or find and scatter the flock to the four winds, wait 1/2 hr, then keekeeruns (or hen assembly calls or gobbles) to get them back together (note that its a scatter and not a flush in one direction and the better the scatter the better the results).

Ya there is a lot of info on scattering them in fall. Going this weekend cant wait, going to try that out if they are not close to the blind.

Seems to work best with 2 or more guys running at them like screaming bushes ...  :yike:

But if you're alone, old, and slow (like me) you can always sneak in under the cover of darkness and whack the roost trees with rolled up newspaper, then setup at the breakpoint and call them back in when it gets light and they start talking .....  :twocents:
