Your favorite cartridge you've never shot?
« on: September 28, 2015, 08:53:49 PM »
My bro in law just picked up a 280 rem hunting rifle and since he's more a hunter than a rifle looney, he asked my opinion (I am a rifle looney). I remarked that the 280 is a fantastic cartridge. I have held this sentiment for a long time but have absolutely zero first hand experience with the round. I don't think I've ever even held a rifle so chambered. So, what's your favorite cartridge that you have no first hand experience with?
Everyone has something to teach, so listen up

I think I love the 6.5x47 Lapua but I've never even seen a round in person.
FWIW I have a .280 Rem. I've shot maybe 25 rounds through it. Trying to get it dialed in to hunt with it this year. Not sure if it's finicky, doesn't like what I fed it, maybe I stink as a shooter, but I couldn't get anything better than about 2.5" groups at 100 yards today. Need some more trigger time for sure.

Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

That was on my list until I acquired one in a trade this year.  Love it but damned expensive to shoot

270 Weatherby.  There are 3 brothers here in Goldendale who were single for a long time.  Went all over the place shooting big game.  At least one of them was a 270 Weatherby fan and used to stop in where I worked back in the day and regale us with stories of long shots on all sorts of critters.  That round has always seemed impressive to me.

.264 winchester magnum. Just has that coolness factor to me, one day when I get into reloading I'll find a left hand model 70 action and build one.

A couple that I like but will probably never own- the 270 WSM and the 375 Ruger.
