Elkboy's season so far...
« on: October 07, 2015, 03:10:19 PM »
... has been a challenge.  My best friend and his wife (1st time hunter) came east to wheat field country with high hopes, joining me and Ms. Elkboy (also 1st time hunter!).  The opener was quiet for buddy and his wife, with no deer passing their morning blind.  My opening morning I had a nice 4x4 and a masher 5x5 (both whitetails) bedded down in the open, 200 yards away... on adjacent private property.  Evening finds my buddy and his wife in a tree stand, and the two of us along the same edge between forest and wheat field.  Just at dusk, with anticipation high, here comes a trespassing teenager on an ATV, zipping along at high speed.  He drives off and ruins the evening hunt for my buddy and his wife, and then zips right back through, ruining Ms. Elkboy's first evening hunt.  I am not the confrontational type, but I sure read him the riot act.  >:(

Sunday was quiet too, with both my buddy's wife and my girlfriend passing on nice does, since they were accompanied by yearlings.  I sure am proud of those ladies for their ethics and restraint. :)

And now I am stuck in a training event all week... in Missouri.  Can't wait to get back for hunting, starting again Friday night!  I sure hope to help Ms. Elkboy take her first deer!  Good luck to all the rest of you with muzzy tags burning a hole in your pockets...

Tough break on the teen and the ATV, good for you to set him straight maybe he may learn. Keep moving forward and good luck Friday.
It has been slow on the west side for me with the exception of a pair of grouse on Monday. Seven does were observed along with one 3x3 and a spike today, during a nice typical NW rainy day. The bucks slipped away as they do and I never caught up to them. I will be back out tomorrow and hope to reconnect with those two bucks.
Whatever........
