The light wieght hunter likes the 120 grain loads ask pope he has one . A 260 rem is another good choice .

Now that they offer them in stainless I really want one, but am annoyed that in stainless you can't get 260 rem or 6.5 creedmore.

Hate to buy a brand new rifle just to swap the barrel...

i might go with the 260 rem just because its easier to get the ammo for them and I'm not much of a reloader

In the past 2-3 years 4 guys in deer camp have moved to 6.5 cm or 260. If your not packing in a long way you may want to think about a fcns, fcss or 10 predator Hunter. Composite stocks, aluminum bedded and a little heavier to absorb even more recoil.

You may want to pm popeshawnpaul he used a lw 6.5x284 on a dall sheep hunt.

6.5 is my next rifle. Been doing some diggin around a bit. I really like Howa and Legacy sports has 6.5 creedmore barreled actions for around $500. Buy a $100 Boyds stock and some work and for under $700 you have a sweet ride. My thoughts!

I have both and in a short BarreL light wieght the 260 is plenty out to 300 yards . I have a compact m77 in 260 it shoots box core locks pretty darn good . Drop a timmey trigger in and it's money . Blrman  set  up a ruger compact American for whitpirates ,kid and was flat impressed with the 7mm 08 just saying .if you wanna streach out to 500 plus go with a full length 6.5 x284 like the long range hunter .

ya I'm still pretty indecisive about what i want. i do a lot of hiking during hunting season so i want something light but would still like to be able to shoot 400 or 500 yards accurately if i needed to

Find a full length pipe then ...the .284 case gives you the capacity to get there and you can run140s. There is some light wieght 270 s that would fit that bill really well to . You could run 140 lrabs or the 140 hornady super performance. Or a 280 ackley

Tika  offers the t3 lightweight in 260 ... it would be tough to find a better value that would shoot any better   :twocents:
