That'll teach you to drive through yellow pine...
It is hard to follow one great vision in a world of darkness and of many changing shadows. Among these shadows men get lost.

Well, I am going to give it a go.  Some good friends of mine have invited me to get an Idaho whitetail tag, and I live just seven miles from the WA-ID state line (closest Idaho unit is Unit eight).  I am excited, but I really don't know how it's going to go!  I have only hunted with modern firearm 2-3 times in the last eight years (most of my hunting is with muzzleloader).  The Savage .243 is sighted in with some 100 grain bullets.  Think I will give rattling and grunting a try as the rut heats up.

The bucks are scraping- first thing I saw when I stepped into the ponderosas was a fresh scrape.  I saw a large buck chasing three does just off the highway on the way to the property, but didn't see any out hunting.  The surprise conference call for work at 1:00 PM sure put a dent in my afternoon hunt!  Grrr.  Good luck to all of you out there!

There was snow on Sunday night above 3200' on Moscow Mountain, but I bet the snow level has risen with the warm rain last night.  There is a colder front coming this Sunday night, but highs are supposed to return to the mid-40s at low elevations.  If you are hunting much higher, snow may be a concern, though!  Good luck.

You might have a good skiff of tracking snow... And the rut is starting to heat up a bit for the whitetails.

Hey MountainTracker-  my hunting partner in Idaho said the bucks are indeed starting to lose some caution- he said a big whitetail ran across the highway in front of his truck today.  So you may be hitting it just right!  Good luck!
