Donations to help Okanogan Mule Deer

Donations to help Okanogan Mule Deer

After the huge Okanogan fires the immediate worry was getting the deer through the winter. Fortunately it's been a mild winter and feeding hasn't been a major issue. The Mule Deer Foundation will be planting burned areas in the spring to help improve habitat for the future. The Washington for Wildlife board of directors have approved a plan to help by conducting fund raisers and organizing a list of volunteers to help with planting. 100% of money raised will be used to plant in the Okanogan and the Mule Deer Foundation will match every dollar we donate. So if someone donates $5 then $10 of seedlings will be planted. Dan McKinley of the Mule Deer Foundation will organize with WDFW the areas to be planted and the work days. We have volunteers to help plant, now we need donations to help fund the plantings.

Cash Donations
WFW is organizing donations to help buy seed and seedlings for planting. Donations of any amount help, every dollar invested by you will be matched by the Mule Deer Foundation and together these dollars will help the burned area recover. Please send donations to the WFW PayPal address (washingtonforwildlife@hotmail.com) or make checks out to "Washington for Wildlife" and please write "Okanogan" on the notes line.  Send checks by postal mail to: Washington for Wildlife, 345 Hwy 20E #A, Colville, WA 99114

Donate Auction Items
Jackelope has volunteered to auction items on the forum to help buy seed and seedlings for planting. We have several items that have already been donated for the auctions. Any item(s) that you would like to donate will help, every dollar made from selling donated items will be matched by the Mule Deer Foundation and together these dollars will help the burned area recover. Please post any donation in this topic and/or send a pm to jackelope.

This should be fun. Looking forward to helping out. Maybe we'll start with one tomorrow.

Thanks, Dale, JB, and Jackelope.  As far as paying Uncle Same, if the auctions are done under a 501 c(3), we don't have to charge sales tax, so it's no problem.  Jackelope, if you need any help, let me know.  I'm on the road pretty much all the time from now until about June, but can make time for emails, calls, and the occasional meeting as I'm passing through one of our local towns.  Always looking to meet with those of you on this forum, so send me a message to stop by for lunch sometime, somewhere!
By the way, if anyone wants a donation receipt for tax purposes, we can take care of that, too.  Just have them pm me and I can get one to them if they like.

That's great info, Dan.
Thanks for the heads up.

Anything specific any of you would like to see up for auction?  Hunting, camping gear, home décor, etc?  If we know, we will have a good idea where to look and try to come up with some items of high interest.

MtMuley,
I had put a brief update on the post that Dale started a ways back about Okanogan projects, but here it is in short form:  We haven't had to spend any $$ yet (invasive weed project was just gas and time), but we are currently buying $5,000 worth of bitterbrush seed, and will have some projects coming up hopefully this fall.  I had asked Dale if he wanted to use some of the funds raised to cost-share the seed purchase, but haven't heard back yet.  I'm sure he is very busy guiding, but hopefully will get a reply soon.
As far as other projects, we are mostly at the mercy of the agencies to get them scheduled, then we can get involved and fund them.  I am pushing the bios for both state and federal agencies to get us some work to do, and hopefully we will hear of some, as this is the time when we would be planting plugs most likely.
I will keep posting updates as we get some projects to fund with the $$ the forum raised.  Til then, they are safe in the club's account, awaiting a use.
