I have been amazed at the wolf sign I have been seeing.  I almost can't go anywhere without seeing it.  We were hunting close to the ski resort when we started to hear the howling.  One fired off and then it turned out, we were surrounded.  No game on that mountain.  Most of the elk that I saw this year were staying very close to private land and civilization.

If there is no game on the mountain then just what are the wolves doing there and eating? Don't you think they would follow the food source.

I know the last time I hunted the North Fork in Idaho we watched a bull in a wallow and we challenged him he never said a word but the wolves were going nuts.

But who cares about moose, deer and elk. I just luv to hear the howl of a wolf when I go camping with my boyfriend.    >:( :tree1: :tree1: :tree1: :tree1: :cmp1: :tree1:

Plus wolves  restore the balance of nature :IBCOOL: and those who see no animals are just poor hunters

There about covered it

This what nature looked like before the evil white man ruined it

Any wolves in the Cusick area yet? I used to hunt turkey on private land outside town.
there is on the east side of the river. I don't do much around there but as a crow flies that's not far from power lake.  We had wolves howling last modern elk season right by moon lake in 113. Howling just above camp. Saw one deer and 3 grouse that whole 9 days.

Think they would swim the Pend Oreille River. I wonder what the Government would do if they became a problem around the Air Force Survival School and training personnel started having not so friendly encounters with them. I wonder if the Feds would eliminate them to protect service personnel.

The only moose I have seen in the Cusick area was near the school a little bull that tried to play chicken with my car.
God Bless,
Scott

From what I'm seeing the wolves are pushing the elk closer to people. Seeing elk in places I've never seen them before.  Before long people will be hunting elk next to town.
I've read that this was kind of the trend in Montana and Idaho.  The game in the wilderness areas kept getting pushed closer and closer to ranches/farms/towns.  People that hunted further back in reported the decline in the herds, but greenies would look at the harvest stats for those states and years and respond with 'But hunters are killing more elk than in the past decades'.  Then a few years later the elk near town started to drop a bit too, but not like they did where there was only seasonal human presence.

Works out well for WDFW, the people who know nothing about the wolves and their impacts, see deer hanging in town and around residents, deer getting hit in the 25mph town limits, complain about deer eating their rose bushes etc. and then complain that there are too many deer. Which backs up biologists who claim every deer season is a great success, which works out well as long as they compare with the year before which was poor also.

The numbers game works out well being the wolves are the desired animal, not so well for the ungulates.
