Yes you can, and there is a lot of them, in that general area.  There are so many dam bear within 15 minutes of Issaquah its not even funny, I lived there for about 3 years, and wish we had that type of bearhunting up north here.  Do some scouting any youll find them!

it is mainly made up of units 454 and 460. there's lots of pulloffs on the road, a couple up near the summit you can park and hike in from the gates.

I'm totally new to this. You know good spots for bear in skagit?  I've gone out a couple times up and around Sauk Mt. and the Nat. Forest area east of Mount Vernon, and I've talked to clinsayrun (he got one near Hamilton).  I have a TON more looking around to do, but if anybody in this area can help out, or wants to show me a thing or two come August, I'm all ears.

I cruised some timber up there... lots of bears. You can walk up the main road off of the 18 summit and and find the alders they bend over and chew at there trail crossings on the way up. Firearm restriction area.  Last time I was up there(2004or2005) we found two bear bait setups with 2x4 stand setups and camo netting and rotten doughnuts....hmmm! Whoevers doing this better watch it as the area is used by the Green River Community College Forestry Program's forest navigation and mapping class. Basically they walk all over the East side of the mountain looking for section corners and monuments. Over the past few years the DNR's been setting up small screened (from I-90 and 18) timber sales. Nice area.... tons of people! Mountain bikers, hikers, forestry students, DNR workers and paragliders..... and a bunch of bears!

Nope..none at all... ;) (all skagit bears from last year, my families) Just put in some times scouting in the hills, you wont have too much trouble. Find berries, find bears.

East of 18 is firearm's restricted. I've seen way, way more bear and bear sign west of 18 per day spent in the woods.

kind of odd that you say firearm restricted , cause i have seen people walking in there with guns and my uncle was telling me about a guy that hunts in there for bear , but i heard you have to walk way in there to hunt

Anybody know if it's better to acces from I-90 or Hwy 18?

Both roads have a 24 hour tow away zone.  Pull all the way off the shoulder but do not block the gates.  Don't bother with 90.  Though there are places to park off of the exits.

Need GPS coordinates for the best spots in there?   :P
