Oh and I am glad to see everyone using the correct terminology. It's sheared not shaved beaver.

Can't count the number of times a man would snicker while calling it a shaved beaver at the fair. The wife/girlfriend was not usually impressed  .

I decided to change the thread tittle. I was going to start a new thread but I want to keep everything in one while documenting my first season.  Thanks for all the input, really looking forward to this season. I've wanted to trap since I was 6 so it's like a dream come true!

On the beaver blanket, I think if you have a blanket with fur on both sides you will have a blanket so heavy and hot you will never be able to use it.
I have seen unsheared beaver blankets and they are beautiful but heavy. My sister had a beaver queen size bedspread made with beavers I gave her. She had it plucked and sheared and the work was done by a company that sent the beavers to International Fur Dressers in Canada. They thinned the leather way down and the bedspread came out very light.
It took 16 blanket beavers to make the bedspread.

This beaver hut I thought was abandoned but while I was checking it out I could hear something splashing inside. Then I saw one huge beaver leave it in a hurry

I've started calling that ailment or disease the "Trapper's Paradox"!
No matter how good you do during trapping season, there is always a better spot, you could always build a better trap, you need X number more traps next season and no matter how much money you get back for your furs, you've already spent it on next seasons gear. Welcome to the club. We'll have a chair saved for you at the next TA meeting.

Headed out today for a little more scouting. Still 2 ponds I haven't checked out this year  I'll try to get some better pics of areas I plan to set.
