Nice first catch    Was expecting to see a beaver first, your beaver sets look like they should produce.

im getting plenty of learning curve on this pond. It's like they quite working.  I made two complete circles on this pond today. I can't figure out what they are doing. They got 3 trees half way down they haven't touched since day one. I smashed his caster mound and smeared it flat. The dam hasn't been touched either. I may have to trap the hut on this one. The other pond I got one set on today I fenced off almost all there runs but the one I got set. We will see tomorrow if it helped at all.  Think I found two more muskrat huts and a beaver hut I hadn't noticed before that's on the river.  Least I got some better mink bait

Got a first night catch on muskrat with a set I made yesterday and a mink in the set that I got the muskrat in yesterday. Had to fix some of the fencing on that set so I know it's getting some activity.

Cool, looks like a nice mink
thanks. I thought it was small compared to the ones I saw during scouting. Maybe I just seen a few pope and young mink and figured that was the norm :chuckle:
All kidding aside I think it's a female. But I'm tickled pink with it.  Thanks for the support!

hoping I can. I got so many places I've scouted out the last 3 or so years for trapping I should be able to keep trapping steady all season. Layoffs are coming soon and I'll be off till snow flys if it's does anyway so I got quite a long list of places I want to trap this year. Including few miles of crab creek in bluestem.  Goal is to double my traps by first of January.  Thanks for the support

Another nice rat today pulling 3 colony traps tomorrow and resetting them, also plan on pulling the beaver sets off pond number 1 as I think they are gone. No activity since last Friday :dunno:  on to pond 2 next to my cat set.

On your beaver pond, you said you had been all the way around it and they seemed to disappear.
If you stomp all around you can sometimes scare them and they either move or hold up for a while. I know when you are young and energetic it is easy to walk the entire shoreline but it is often best to get a couple good sets in and leave. Especially activity around their den can scare them. Not always but that may be what happened.

could be what's up, though I did just what you say. Came straight in made 2 sets then left but by day 3 I decided to do the stomp around since all activity had stopped since day one. Scouted this pond in September and saw 5 beaver.

Today all sets where empty   Tomorrow I'm pulling those beaver sets and moving to pond 2

Another first night catch on a rat in the above set. Set two mor traps near there aswell. Moved all the beaver sets to pond two.  Pulled my mink sets today moving those closer to the muskrat sets tomorrow.  Left my phone on shore while I crossed the grass mats so no pic of the other set this time
