If you look close in the last photo I think you can see him extending his middle finger towards the camera!  :)

That Cat obviously knows the camera is there or he wouldn't be looking at it. I think those cameras spook an animal at a set so I would recommend putting the camera in the truck if ya want to up your odds of catching him.  :twocents:
:yeah:I had a camera I put out at sets for a while a few years ago. Infrared, and I could never hear it make any noise. My ears aren't what they used to be though I'll admit. The camera did have a small light that flashed when the camera took a picture but not until the camera was activated.
Every picture of a cat it took the cat was staring right at the camera. Even had cats facing away from the camera looking over their shoulder at it. I could not understand how they could react that fast.
I do know I never caught a cat that got its picture taken. Quit using the camera.

I think Pre baiting would be difficult with out a cam. How are you supposed to know what ate the bait with out a cam?   Not easy without fresh snow often. A pic can give you a lot of info! I have cams that make no noise. They were not handy when I did the bait sight. I will not use this cam for baiting again it's normally my deer bait cam ( they don't care ). The lights that come on that are not infa red on all my cams are taped off with electrical tape. With my bushnel x8's I never get the looking into the camera pics from any game including coyotes 3' from the cam. I should have used that cam but it was dead. These pics told me a very good story tho. I learned the trail the bobcat has been using. I learned it rarely goes to the trail above this one. I also learned some dogs run this trail some times. Even if the cat gets spooked from this spot the y 100 yards down the trail could be a good spot, beyond this spot is a spring and the start of a small creek. It drops off almost straight down 60'.  Although the cam may have caught his attention he had no negative experience to associate with the click noise. He sat and ate a while so I'm not sure it bothered him at all. I also learned this is not the tom I had on cam very near here some it further leads to me thinking the cat toilet I found near by is from 2 separate toms marking the same spot, based off observation of scat and Near by bait cam pics. My point is the cam can give me a lot of usable info also. It might of spooked him but I don't think so. One cam I have prob would have. I appreciate you guys bringing this up though as it is a good point. I have heard many cameras before I saw them and I know game hear it too.  I could be wrong but based on what I saw I don't think it bothered this cat. I will use the Silent cams for now on at my cat bait sites.  I'm really enjoying the challenges I've faced this year. I feel I've learned a lot and have a much better plan for next year.  Hopefully you guys continue to critique me so I can learn a little faster.  Thank you again

At a property I use to live at I had a cuddieback camera with a flash and I would watch it go off and light up the mountain side with a pile of deer around it and not one of them would even flinch...or look at the camera or anything...thought it was kind of interesting...

i think it's the noise the cam makes as it switches from day or night mode. Most cams have a infa red lense that flips either in front of or away from the cam lense.
The light dosent seem to bother some animals but I have noticed with predators if there is a light they often notice it. If the cam does even the slightest click most critters will be looking at the cam.
Of all the cams I have the bushnel X8 has by far been the best cam for predators! Problem is it can eat battery's fast as it will take a pic about every few sec. I like it set very fast for predator scouting

If you can make the camera work without scaring the cats that's great. It is however not that hard to tell if a cat has hit the bait.
First wire your bait about 5 feet high and use a small run pole( like 2" diameter) to it. That keeps coyotes out if it. Cats are sloppy eaters they will just eat the meat off the bone and leave the bone with a little meat left. Cougar will take it all and leave you with a hanging wire straightened out. Raccoons will clean up everything and civets will chew on it but kind of despoil what they can't eat right away. Once you have seen a few baits eaten you will know right away what was there.
Also with the small run pole cats will leave scratches on it where they were balancing and digging in there toes.

This is one of the best trappers tricks I've read not in the tips and tricks thread. Great amount of info here in such a small paragraph.  :)

Pulled my cat set today. Been having a rodent of some kind triggering my trap and eating and pooping on my bait.   I had a blast this year learning quite a bit I think. Looking forward to next year. A huge thank you to all you folks that took the time to share your tips and thoughts/ exp.  and also the encouragement along the way.

The Bushnells seem to be pretty good about that.  Still get some coyotes looking at the red glow.  The Primos 02 infrared seems to really draw a lot of attention.  They have a bright red glow to them and wash out the frame when they first fire up.

I have two of these little Wildgame Innovations Buck Commander Nano 4 Hunting Trail Camera.  I have 26 close pictures of a coyote and more of a bobcat or two as well as a skunk and in not one of them are the animals looking at the camera.  I have had Bushnell, Cuddeback and Moultrie cams before and they were good but coyotes were always looking at the camera and I never got any pictures of bobcats.
