Taurus: " The Judge" Thoughts, Reviews?
« on: January 17, 2009, 09:18:39 AM »
I've been looking into purchasing a Taurus Judge 45 lc/410 as a gift. It will be used as a grouse gun/backup arm while out in the field. Anyone own one of these guns? Have any thoughts?  :)

I've wanted one as well since I first heard of them. But I guess there have been some quality issues and the pattern is dismal with shotshells. Accuracy sucks too since the cylinder is so long before the bullet reaches the barrel. I still want one bad but think I'll hold out till I start reading better reviews. Go to the links below. I'm bummed because I think this would be the perfect pistol to pack around during grouse season but from the sounds of it my .44 with shotshells which I've used quite a bit would give the same results. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I read some questionable reviews too, but I figured who know's with the net. I thought here I might get some first hand knowledge. Thanks.

I hear you, but I don't want to gamble with $400.00. I did edit my 1st post though and threw up 3 links that discuss it. Quality complaints aside, I don't like what I've read about the poor patterns as thats the main reason I wanted the gun.

Let us know what you get.

My dad bought "The Judge" but not sure on how he likes it since he has not shot one single bullet though it. I think he bought it more for fact that if someone was threating you, you would pull that puppy out... :dunno:
He buys a lot of toys. I think it would kick like a mule.

"WARNING" It will probably be wicked in the hand also. I have a Davis derringer in .38 special, and that puny cartridge kicks like a mule.

I bought the model 329 Smith&Wesson in .44 a few years ago for packing mostly, but it does a great job on grouse with the shot shells. It comes in a .41 also but getting shells can be a little harder at times. I love this gun it is light weight and pretty accurate, it does kick pretty good with hot loads. I've never shot the Judge, just didn't fit my hand very well. My :twocents:

I owned one until a few days ago. I traded it for another weapon. I did not trade it because I did not like it. I liked it very much. It was surprisingly easy on the hand. BTKR killed a grouse with it. I find it to be a very good home protection/vehicle protection weapon. It is not great for accuracy until you get the feel for the sights and will give better results with buckshot in the .410 shell.
I kept a .410 ready to roll first and then follow up with a .45LC if necessary.
Would I recommend it? Yes, but not as a first choice for accuracy and kill power if that is what you have in mind. Yes again if you are looking for something to protect yourself with. In a close encounter with a bear, it will deal out some pretty wicked .45 ballistic tips as fast as you can pull the trigger.

That's my opinion.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.
He who shed blood with me shall forever be my brother.
