Traditions Smackdown SST not Hornady SST's
« on: October 05, 2015, 05:16:11 PM »
This is the bullet I shot my elk with on Saturday.  It was a downhill shot between 35 and 40 yds. It went through his shoulder blade than a rib took out the lower part of the spine the off lung and the brass ended up between two ribs in the meat. The lead must have stayed in the lung gut area. He was a little quartering to me and there was one hole in the stomach. Not gut shot at all; he was very clean but for one hole. The bull just dropped and kicked around. This is the first jacked ML bullet I’ve used. What do you think?

This is what every hornady sst bullet looks like that I've recovered from animals with shots fired from 100-629yards, from 7mm mag, 30.06, 308. Aswell as every 50cal muzzy bullet I've recovered from a soft dirt bank where I was sighting in.

I really agree with you and even though it worked - I still do not shoot Hornady's.  Why take the chance?
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

I just read that these are designed by Hornady. Not the red tip, must be the same bullet :dunno:

I can't argue with the accuracy I'm getting with factory ammo. 1/2" or less groups with my to superlight 7mag.

the only animal I've had take more than 1 step after the shot was my bear last year. But with that in mind, the damage that 154gr pill did to that bear was spectacular at 629 yards.

I simply can't argue with the results whether the bullet separates or not.
