scope mounts for a Tikka T3 lite in 308
« on: October 05, 2015, 06:45:07 PM »
I've got a new to me Tikka in 308 that I'm putting a Leopold VX 1 4.5x12 on it. The rifle has Warner rings on it now,  but they don't align well. I have a Wheeler scope mounting kit so I tried using lapping compound to dial them but no luck. Today I picked up some Leupold two piece mounts and rings to try.

So my question is, are the Leupold rings a good match for this  rifle or should I be looking at a different brand, 1 piece mount or?

Thanks for your help.

Nothing wrong with the leupold bases and rings. I have them on my 300WSM and have had zero issues.

I am (after hunting season) considering going with a 20 moa base and picatinny style setup, but only because I want the ability to shoot that much further if needed.

DNZ GameReaper low mount is what I went to after I replaced the factory rings.
I have an NIB EGW Picatinny rail without elevation if anyone wants to buy it.

I have some Sako optilocks I would sell for a reasonable price. They came on a Tika 7mag my son bought and I already bought some modified Talleys. So went with them.

I topped the EGW rail with Burris xtr

I have several tikkas up thru 300WM. I use stock tikkas on all. several friends do also, zero problems. There is never a reason to use scope mount bases if you do not have to, anything that raises the scope is bad.

I went with Talley's on my Tikka 300 Win. Mag and my Tikka .308 after talking to a rep from Leupold.  I asked him what he would do if they were his rifles....

I thought I had to have a 50mm objective and 30mm tube  :chuckle:

Turns out I'd have been fine with a higher quality 3x9,  in which I would have used the stock rings.

lesson learned, should have stuck the money I spent for that base rail and rings into better glass.

Not that I choose bad glass with Ziess 4.5x14 conquest AO MC target turret scope.  Think I'd have been happier with a 3x9 CDS on this rifle.

Thank you everyone for the replies, I'm going to call Talley and DNZ tomorrow. I do like the looks of the Talley's, but the one piece DNZ is tempting.

I'm curious, why no love for Leupold rings/mounts?

I couldn't decide which one so I purchased both the Talley's and DNZ. The DNZ looked good and have a nice finish that matched the Leupold well, unfortunately once mounted my alignment dowls didn't show a perfect alignment. I put the Talley's on and they aligned perfectly so I left them on, the finish on the Talley's doesn't quite match the Leupold but pretty close.

Thanks again Gentlemen.

I would check your dowels.
DNZ one piece Gamekeeper would be pretty hard to get out of alignment.
