Wyoming Lopes 2015
« on: October 10, 2015, 09:34:32 PM »
Recently got back from my trip to Wyoming and thought I'd share a few photos of my adventure with my boys.  These two definitely have the bug and have been out with me here in WA a few times over the last few years, they definitely have been disappointed with the lack of game and action, even though every trip has been fun.  With that in mind I figured it was time to take them hunting somewhere where game numbers were high, chance of success was high and the sense of adventure was there as well so it was time to burn some Wyoming antelope points in 2015.

Made the long drive out there with them, leaving after soccer games meant that we only knocked off 8 hours the first day, the remaining hours would be hammered out the next day.  We pulled into our hunting unit on Sunday afternoon and it was hot.  Animal sightings were lower than expected and I saw more hunters than I had on a previous hunt in the area.  I went to bed optimistic that things would be better in the morning, and they were.  For the next three days we only saw an average of two other vehicles a day in our hunting area, we passed on 100's of bucks.  I was trying to find one better than the 78" buck I had taken in 2010.  After 3 full days on the unit, with the boys wondering why the latest buck isn't quite good enough, I found a neat looking buck and the boys had their first big game kill experience.

We spent the days watching antelope rutting, fighting, racing across the prairie, saw wild horses, deer, elk, prairie dogs, explored old homesteads and the boys had plenty of time to do what any 7 year old would do in the middle of the prairie, make up fun games to pass the time.  Took the scenic route home through Yellowstone and opened their eyes to the natural wonder that place is, getting them excited to return next year.

All in all a great week and an experience they will remember the rest of their lives, as for me I'm definitely a Wyoming antelope junkie, I can't get enough of hunting them, its a blast!

Congrats - that is a trophy hunt in my book.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Boys look VERY happy.
