Yakima Opener - Skunked again
« on: October 11, 2015, 04:06:20 PM »
This is my second year hunting the Yakima opener, saw a couple hens and no roosters. Found quail in good numbers. Didn't see many hunters, especially on feel free to hunt sites. Anybody have success over there?

Gave up on Yak pheasant years ago. Bombed over for the quail. Only a few small coveys in the usual late season areas. Did manage to get some young ones and partner took a drake woody that was surprisingly well dressed.

I'd be pumped to shoot a nice wood duck on the opener next week. I never see them. The rez seems to be a good place for them but that is pretty far.

We found a little pocket of birds on the opener..  Rez is nothing like it used to be.  Except for a few areas, the bigger picture out on the rez is gloomy..

Wow! Way to go. Maybe I won't give up on the rez.

Hunted a field this morning. Put up one rooster and a covey of quail. Last year in that same field I flushed 10 pheasants. Guess I need to keep looking!
