I just sent Director Unsworth another e-mail. Thanks for the update.

Thanks.  Please let us know if he even responds.

Wow, I thought I was the only one he could ignore that much.  Have you tried the governor?

In the legislators email it mentioned how they really have no ability to fire Cenci, Crown, etc and it is all up to Unsworth and they have no authority over him. That's true.

But maybe it's time to penalize WDFW until action is taken. Pearson is in charge of the Natural Resource Committee, he determines which bills get a hearing, get a committee vote and move on. Maybe it's time for him to essentially kill all WDFW related bills that come to his committee. Will it hurt WDFW, sportsman, and maybe even the resource? Sure, but that seems to be the only way to get something done.

Maybe Pearson just has to hold WDFW hostage by delaying their legislation and basically telling Unsworth that nothing will change legislatively until things change in the Enforcement Program.  :twocents:

I certainly would seem to be the only possible way to force the change, which absolutely must occur; for the good of the WDFW employees, the license buyers, and the natural resources.

It appears the commission or governor must want this issue to fade away. Remember, the Commission is appointed by the governor, Unsworth is appointed by the Commission, Unsworth has been told what the Commission and the Governor expect, he is doing his job. Tightening the purse strings may be the only way to possibly get action. Perhaps everyone who is writing letters should also start copying every letter and message that's been sent and will be sent in the future to Pearson who is the chair of Natural Resources in the Senate and Brian Blake who is the chair of the Natural Resources Committee in the House.

I totally agree, but please remember Senator Pearson is on our side (read the letter he wrote, on the wdfwinvestigation.com website).....he's one of the good guys.  The more pressure the senate can put on WDFW to act, the better the odds that something might actually change.

So please follow Bearpaw's advice and send those letters/emails on to Senator Pearson and Representative Blake.

Representative Blake- brian.blake@leg.wa.gov

good but none of the files would open for me.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

If Unsworth has even an ounce of brain, he will not pick either of the two deputy chiefs to take over (even in an acting role).
Now is the best opportunity Unsworth has had, to correct years of wrong, and start clean with a new chief and a new deputy chief, not just recycling the same problem children.

The interesting questions to be asked is what will Unsworth look for in a new Chief? Proven LE leader? Proven natural resource LE leader? From inside WA? Outside WA?

You cant really even get a general consensus from current or retired WDFW Officers what the 'profile' of a Chief should be. One of the letters on Todd's site is from retired WDFW Officer Mike Krenz who was never really a supporter of general (full) law enforcement authority for WDFW Officers. Yet he suggested that State Representative Chris Hurst would be a good choice for the WDFW LE Chief. Hurst is an outdoorsman but his background is being a police officer for Black Diamond. Not exactly a large agency or one that does natural resource law enforcement.

Some will say all you need is a proven people leader. Others will say you want a proven people leader who has been a game warden. You can ask 15 different WDFW Officers and get 15 different responses.

I would be shocked if he looks to promote from within wdfw. If he does, I will have lost all faith that he can fix the problem.
