Could not agree more with WaCenturian!  DFW should manage their land/access areas to be a showcase not an afterthought.

Wacenturion,

You are spot on.
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

Would be interesting to ask a few questions here...

WDFW invites public to help identify
conservation and recreation priorities

OLYMPIA – State fish and wildlife managers are asking people in coastal communities to attend a public forum next month to share their views on the values and priorities that should guide the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

The meeting will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Willapa Harbor Community Center, 916 W. First St., South Bend.

Oh Geez, here we go again.  Just another tool to make you think something is going to happen.  How many combined years of education and experience in an agency like WDFW and they need to ask what needs to get done?  Therein lies the problem.  We're supposed to lead, and manage in conjunction with the public's awareness and support.

Give you an example.  When I went to work for the old Dept. of Game in the early 70's, the Wildlife Area Program was in a planning stage.  It has been in a continual one since then.  Just different buzz words to make the public think something positive is happening.  The plans, which are drawn up every 5-8 years never get implemented.  They just repackaged the effort in catchy new terminology and do it all over again.  Look at us, we're doing something for you all.  WDFW's Wildlife Areas are custodial at best.....fact.  If WDFW was serious, they would be showcases of wildlife management principals.  Want an easier to visualize example.  Check out the average WDFW access site. Bare bones minimal effort.  For crying out loud, that's the first thing people who use those sites visually connect with when they evaluate how WDFW is spending their license money.

Sorry to rant..............these announcements are like a broken record with a scratchy chalkboard thrown in as background music.  It's become part of WDFW's DNA.

Like the WAG. Lip service.  :bash:

Sorry to offend some with my comments, not my intent. I will say that most of my years of interaction with WDFW Enforcement has been good. Only a couple of situations that seemed off.
Anyway, I wrote to Sen. Pearson, Rep, Kristiansen, and Rep. Scott. I received a Joint Reply from two, which acknowledged the Issues, 2015 WSP Audit, and Tarabochia Case.
Most important; "Like you, we remain extremely concerned with the management of the enforcement division of WDFW but are unable to direct the hiring and firing decisions made by the WDFW since they are a non-legislative agency. The power to hire and fire remains exclusively with Director Jim Unsworth, who has failed to demonstrate that he is ready or able to take any effective action along with the WDFW Commission."

Would you be willing to post the entire response letter on here?

It might be a mouthful, but it is right on the mark.  Nobody, including the legislators I have spoken with, can understand why Unsworth doesn't do something....anything.

Have those of you who have written to DFW Commissioner's received any response?  If yes, what have they said?

Good question.  I personally have only received the rubber stamp email from the commission secretary confirming they received my emails.

Same here and no response at all from Unsworth. I see very little change in his first year accept to throw a few bones on hunting seasons to keep the masses subdued. I was hoping that the change of the guard would show more sweeping reforms. Same story, different guy.  :bash:

Okay, so Unsworth has decided to just ignore the many problems, bury his head in the sand, and wait for it all to blow over?  But I can't understand why the commission, and/or the governor don't get him moving on or moving out.
I guess this is just another glaring example of how poorly our state government works these days.

I have spent a lot of time in panhandle and have been very impressed with IDFG.  I was excited when I heard Unsworth was coming here.  But like Pianoman said he has done NOTHING.

Because he's toeing the line on the wolf plan and supporting animal rights groups' strength within the department. Plain and simple, he's keeping our liberal, non-hunting, animal rights lovin' governor placated.
