I own one, it will catch a rat but you need to be in an area with large numbers.
I don't have a lot of rats in my area so mine is empty more often than not.

There are a real good trap.  Four of us including the guy that makes them have gone out with them the last two springs rat trapping and he caught 750 rats in three weeks two years ago and 350 rats in two weeks last year with them.  They are design to allow the young/smalls rats to get out between the bars and hold only the bigger ones.  If you set them out in spring and the young get away, wait for thirty days and you'll have that rats again when its a little bigger in size which turns into a dollar more.

I have a couple of them and would recommend them to anyone that has a area with a lot of rats.  You'll clean up the area in no time.  But on the other hand owning these traps; they are so good and effective that you could clean out/ over harvest an area of rats too.

Get a couple you won't regret it, its just another tool that you will put to use.

They do look very effective watching a few of the videos. I think the pond with floating grass mats that I plan to trap would be a great place for a floating trap. Most of that pond is very deep! I found out it has no fish at all and was a mining pit at one time. It has a lot of suspended trees  but for the most part it droops off right at the shore edge.  Also a near by lake that gets almost no traffic come nov that holds a bunch of rats.

My trapping partner has a couple.  We still haven't caught a rat in them.  I think you need to be in an area with a lot of rats for them to be useful.

I own 3 they catch rats best trap for areas where there aren't that's many rats. I use them in the spring with a little muskrat love and some carrots. Check um every couple days and almost always have a rat or two. They never leave the water and are easy to check especially if you tie um to a dock. I use them on the west side in urban areas where it would be very time consuming to set colony's. When are you gonna post the beaver colony design is it a floating style trap.
