calling tips
« on: October 09, 2015, 03:41:41 PM »
I am trying to call in an area I know have bear(s), the guy is not coming out. earlier when berries ripen I saw plenty of scat and the pooper who ran away. So, he/she is in the neighborhood. There is a swampy creek in about 200-300 yard...
I go calling with my friend who is looking behind me. I called for 40-45 minutes in two different places and didn't see a thing. I try low volume first and increase gradually, in 10 minutes blow all lungs ... Intervals are 40-100 seconds each with 1-2 minute pauses. I have one call: distressed fawn, bought on Amazon - good reviews. I am buying another one (rabbit) from Cabela's to try next week

questions: does frequency, pause, volume, pitch, etc. matter to Mr. Bear? Maybe Mr. Bear saw me (although I am dressed in camo and there is hardly any wind). Any tips calling will be appreciated.

Leave the pauses out and call non-stop.  Set a watch out in front of you so you can see how long you have been calling.  Call for at least an hour.  Start off low and increase the volume.  Really put some emotion into your call.   P.S.  I used to average a bear called in about every 15 to 20 stands.
