Deer still scattered?
« on: October 13, 2015, 10:21:26 AM »
Just curious as I don't get over there much, how are the deer prospects looking in Ellensburg this year? I'm heading over tomorrow, first year I get to do a bit of scouting myself before season. My buddy that lives over there has been rebuilding corral fences all summer so hasn't gotten out much but says he's still not seeing as many bucks as in years past. I know there will be some people that tell me to go look for myself, and I plan to, but I just thought someone wouldn't mind sharing some info. Good luck to everyone for the modern opener this weekend!

Hunted 8 days during bow season for elk and saw 5 does total and one button spike.  I was in elk everyday though.

Haven't seen much, but the weather patterns just haven't been too exciting.  Still dreadfully dry.  It's supposed to hit 80 this afternoon.   I've witness pre rut behavior happening, so I suppose thing are on track.

Was in taneum last week saw lots of deer but all were does and forkies. Couldn't find a legal buck all week. Was in lower moonlight and didn't see the cat kills.

I've seen 13 legal bucks, my triangle of reference is Selah to Wenas  to Robinson canyon. Not alot for 30+ days of scouting, 30-40 miles of boot leather burned and hundreds of miles driven... Few and far between  :twocents:

To many hunters, too little land and animals. Case in point- this morning I drove thru Canyon and saw 16 vehicles pulled over on edges with guys glassing hillsides :o

I know Reecer,Schnebly and Colockum are hit hard but they have alot of bucks ...
Good Luck

I hunted in the nanum for five days. The hunting was very poor. We saw close to fifty deer all does and yearling bucks. My dad did see a four point driving out after dark.

I saw a really nice 5x5 off of  hwy 90 outside Eburg last week.  Feeding 30 yds off interstate   I pulled off next exit circled around to see again because I thought it was a mirage  :chuckle:

In 7 or 8 trips into deer country, in the last 6 weeks, I have only seen 2 bucks and elk everytime. I saw the bucks last friday and will be back for them saturday morning for the biggest one.

During the goat search the 3 times I was heading up Taneum I about ran over at least 10 does total each trip. Plus a suicide doe that wouldn't get off the road and ran ahead of me like a bloodhound. :dunno:

Thanks guys...I scouted a bit this morning and saw 7 bucks together and another buck on his own. Lots of does and fawns too. I'm hunting private land in the Naneum that butts up to forest service. Looks like a promising season. Good Luck to everyone and I hope for big bucks all around.

Weather hasn't knocked them off their patterns yet imo.  When we get a day or 2 of rain i see it on cam that they come in mid day, right after the rain lets up.  I get all night pics til then.  Had 2 of my good bucks come in at noon on Wednesday because it stopped raining about 11.  They were wet and you could tell they wanted to get up and move and get in the sun.  Of course they did that between seasons. lol
