Knight bighorn #11  I've been shooting cci mag caps for years with no problem. Recently started cutting caps leaving little copper bowl inside nipple. I tried the German 1075 , same result. I called CCI  they said there were no reported problems with numbered batch. they thought nipple was sitting to high. I changed out breech plug nipple and even the striker, still same problem. Called knight, the said same thing either breech plug or nipple sitting to high. so yesterday I broke down and bought a new bighorn. After a good cleaning, loaded up and shot. same result, cut cap left inside nipple.  Tried German cap again with same result.  Called Knight the didn't know what to make of it.  Any thoughts ?

Holy cow that is weird - I have not had or seen that problem and I use both of those caps a lot.  Hope somebody get this figured out.

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

That same thing happened with my uncle's Bighorn. But only once that I know of. It took him quite a while to dig the piece out of the nipple. He had to borrow my nipple pick.

Could it be the wrong nipple for the gun? Same thread size but a different length? My friends dad had an issue with his rem 700 muzzy where the nipple was shorter than what he was supposed to have and they had to unscrew it a few turns to get the caps to go off. Maybe the same thing but a longer nipple in this case :dunno:

Ive had it happen a couple times with RWS caps. But they were easily removed with a nipple pick. I check after every shot to see if the nipple needs cleaned out.

Got a call from Gordy Edwards from Knight, He told me that it is a problem with the striker and the way it comes to a point causing it to cut off the cap . He said the quick fix was to use the dremel to grind the point flat. about the size of the cap. Apparently same problem with musket caps. I ground my old striker down as he said , I fired 6 shots with no issues .  spent caps flattened out as they should. Maybe problem solved. Apparently this a common problem so we,ll see   : :)
