Nice buck!  My Dad always told me if you walk up on a deer you shot and its eyes are closed its still alive!  I looked at all the other deer in this thread and all of their eyes are open except yours.

Just a strange looking pic.

After a 405 yard shot with my 338 made a complete pass through and put him down instantly.

My Winthrop buck from the evening of the 21st.  I had planned on hunting till the 25th, but my hunt ended quickly when this guy appeared just before 6pm, following 2 does.  A neck shot at 80 yards, he crumpled immediately and I found him like this, kind of in a pretzel shape.  Second photo shows him after I straightened him out. Everyone in our group saw a lot of deer and many saw legal bucks but no shot opportunities.

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.
