Burn piles and deer
« on: October 14, 2015, 09:27:16 PM »
Went scouting after work and where I was planning on taking my fiancée this weekend there were 6 slash piles burning today. Will this affect the amount of deer in the area?

No clue.  I doubt it. They might bed in the timber on the upwind side if it is really smokey, just so they maintain their sense of smell.

I'd concentrate your efforts on cuts that had reprod around 4 - 6 (to as much as 10) years old rather than a brand new cut.

I tried hunting an area with slash burns a few seasons ago.  The smoke and the fog made it such that I couldn't see in the cuts well.  Most of the deer I did see were up above the smoke on the hillside or along roads.  I don't think the smell bothered them that much.
