Extendable decoy pole needed
« on: October 15, 2015, 11:18:24 AM »
Need help in a hurry.  I am looking for an 18' extendable decoy retrieving pole.  Need it before Saturday.  I know, very late notice.  But I just went and scouted my duck area and it is very muddy this year, so this pole will help a lot.  I have called or went into cabelas, sportsmens, white elephant, general store and nobody has one.  If you know where I can get one on short notice or even have one I can borrow please let me know ASAP.  I will pay to rent it from you.  I've attached a link for what it looks like.  Thanks for any help!!

Make one out of a golf ball retreiver or with rope and good sized treble hook.

You can also try using a fishing pole. Ive used a fishing pole to retrieve a goose that landed way out on the ice and it worked out alright, just took a while to hook it.

I thought about the golf ball retriever but those just aren't long enough.  We'll have about 6-8 feet of who knows how deep mud just to reach the water.  I guess I'll have to pack in a fishing pole, it's better than nothing.

Home Depot sells a 20ft one you can screw on all sorts of ends dusters window squeegee etc I'm sure you could add something that would work pretty easy.

I'm pretty sure I included mine with my boat sale last year but I'll check tonight.

Some good suggestions on here as alternatives, but I've used painting pole extensions you might use for a roller and glue a hook on the end. These are sturdy, light and work great.

Yep they collapse down to about 6ft. I have one and am in Lynnwood if you want to try it not sure where you are. But I bet the paint roller would screw right on it.

Reminds me of back in the day when I made a duck retriever.  I had 2 really long 2" bamboo poles.  One had hook on it made from a coat hanger, and I would tie-wire them together at the lake.  It would float too. I had to be gentle with it when put together as it was flimsy.

Amazon.  Or think outside the box and get an extendable paint roller handle.  Those are probably stronger and make a hook on the end or screw on a cheap roller, bend the roller arm or snip off the roller part to make a hook.  Paint flat black.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Done!  Found a 23' paint roller extender and paint roller, painted it in dull camo green and bent the paint roller.  Good to go.  Thanks for the input all.
