Bummer.

Well, at least it was your brother who dumped it and not some other guy on the next hill...

Ouch.  Does this mean you're going to get endless ribbing from him at every holiday event for the next decade?

Even when I miss the spot I was aiming at but kill the animal I obsess over the shot for weeks.  Longer if I can not put my finger on the source of the issue.  I just might be the worst there is at just not letting a miss go.  I missed what I believe was a top three WA muledeer back in '93 or '94.  I still relive that nightmare at least once a month in my dreams.  It's as if the flight of that arrow is etched into my vision.  Close my eyes and I can see it plain as day.  I absolutely HATE to miss!

I missed a world class blackbear in Idaho a year afterward.  Burnt black stick right over his chest.  I never saw it!  If I had pulled or pushed the shot a single inch he would have been mine!!  Not sure if that qualifies as a miss, but I didn't get him, so I am driven darn near to madness because of it.  If I close my eyes I can still hear him crashing off down the canyon.  Echoes in my brain louder than the actual event, I think.  I REALLY hate to miss!

People wonder why I work at night and rarely sleep.  It's the nightmares when I close my eyes that keep me awake.  Might as well work...it's less exhausting!

I feel for you elkrack.  Welcome to the brotherhood!  Only cure that I know of is to make the next shot count.  Might not stop the nightmares but it does make them appear less often.

Sunday morning I missed the biggest buck I have ever seen, it was a giant three point which actually had a kicker and a split on his back time and eye guards. He was at least 20 inches tall and I'm telling you it was it almost 30 inches wide. Him and another four point almost started sparring right next to me at 40 yards I finally got my gun up to my shoulder,I shot and I missed, I have no words to explain it. Not sure I will ever get over it. Ive missed more times than I can count and I've decided I'm a great hunter but a lowsy shot. This one hurt oh so bad though. I haven't stopped thinking about it, I can't wait to get back into the woods on Saturday, but I'm sure I will never have an opportunity at a buck like him again in my life.

Are to 85 with bad knees?

Even then I'd say there is always hope!  Lots of big deer in WA.  God willing and the creek don't rise...

Seatown5 - not just a lowsy shot, a lousy speller too! :chuckle:

Don't let it get you down.  I missed one yesterday.  All I could do was laugh.  There's not much better in life than deer hunting!
