I didn't think there was software that could tell me how many pictures were on my camera.  I was wrong.  I found some software that works.  Fortunatley, I only have 324 images on my camera...    It works with the following cameras only:

40D
50D
Rebel 450D
Rebel 1000D

If anyone is interested, I have a way of getting the number of actuations on a camera by using a hex editor and looking at the embedded data in a raw file.  It sounds complicated and is a little.  If you want me to do this to your 20D, send me a raw picture.

Also, for those fortunate few (I know none on this site) that have a pro 1-series camera, cancount is a program that will tell you actuation numbers.

Well, ya know one now.     I use a 1DMK3.  It's my understanding that "cancount" does not work on the 1DSMk3 or 1DMK3's......only the MK2's and earlier.

Needs to be a Jpeg straight from camera.

I almost like the idea of the 1.6 crop sensor versus the whole sensor with wildlife.  Just out of curiosity as I haven't read all the reviews, what makes the MarkIII worth 3,000

I'm with you Bone, its near impossible to get close enough to those sheep as it is and that's shooting a 600+1.4.

It's weather sealed, pro grade for bumps and bruises, amazing autofocus, and other pro features.  Spend your money on lenses.  If you aren't sure if you need a 1 series camera, then you don't.  You'll know it when you do.

I spent a few years with the XXD series cameras and finally hit the spot where I was able to utilize the power of the 1 series.  Don't even like picking up my other cameras now.      My "keeper" rate has gone way up, especially in sports.  Also, the 1D series is not FF, it's about 1.3x  ( I think the MK3 is actually 1.285) The 1DS has the FF sensor.  My ram picture in the January photo of the month contest was taken with a 300mm lens, and the pic is barely cropped. 

Here's a rodeo I shot last spring.  Every shot was at 300mm and wide open at F2.8  Autofocus had no problem keeping up.

The full size original image files look great.  These are drastically reduced to fit the web. 

And yes, the camera is heavier, but I weighed both my systems and it only weighs two ounces more than how I used to carry my XXD cameras.  ( Battery grip and four batteries).  The new 1D series batteries last forever.  Depending on the lens used, I've hit 10K frames on one battery before charging and it still wasn't dead yet.
