I'd go with a nice euro.  Congrats to the hunter.

I personally would buy a cape from whomever you choose as your taxidermist, as it sits a Euro may be your only option.  If a taxidermist takes your money, and mounts that buck as is, he is doing you a great disservice.

You can get a different cape and the possibilities are endless, I'm not much of fan with short neck/head mounts

Or get a quality European mount done and put it on a high grade hard wood plaque, that would be my choice

That's an awesome buck congrats

I know this may be a completely dumb question...do I need to put it on ice or do anything with it? Also, do I just take it like that to the Taxidermy?

If you are planning on using that cape it needs to be kept cool, also as a service to whomever does the taxi work.  No one wants to work around rotting meat.  Best bet is get it into a local taxi tomorrow, and see what he can do for you.  A new cape will probably set you back 150ish bucks, but you only have one first buck.  All of my families firsts are on the wall as shoulder mounts.  Great buck btw.

Euro mounts are nice, but if you want a traditional mount you'll have to get a new cape.  I've used Tyler Ono at Tri City Taxidermy for a few mounts and have always been very happy with his work.  I highly recommend talking to Tyler, he could help you with either the euro or shoulder mount.  Nice buck.

Its not a dumb question, you're just overwhelmed wth other things like processing the meat and of course, the excitement!  :IBCOOL:

It's best to cape it that day. If you're not good at it and you know for a fact that you want the shoulder mount you can keep it on if it's cool and you'll be to the taxi within say 24 hours.

You could also put other members on here on notice that they can keep their cape and you could pay them say $50-100 for it. Last few bucks I killed I was only offered $25 from a taxidermist and opted t throw the last one away than waste my time for $25.

Whichever mount you choose, you'll always have a great memory of your 1st buck  :)

Throw it in the freezer. Take it to Tyler ono. Kennewick side of the cable bridge, second light turn right, immediate left into parking lot in industrial building looking area. Have him do a euro mount or ask if he has a cape to have a shoulder mount done. Congrats on the deer son and mother. He should be at the shop tomorrow.

I know freezer space might be an issue. If he killed it today or yesterday and you can drop it off tomorrow then just leave it nr bag on the garage floor by the garage door to get the cool from tonight. We do have rain coming and clouds so it's not going to get real cold like last night but should be good for a night, especially since you are not going to use that cspe. But the taxidermist would appreciate it not to be rotting. You'll be good for tomorrow without an issue.  Again congrats to the kid!

Buy a cape and don't even consider a doe cape.  Don't do that again.
