I'd personally take the shot, right in the throat patch.  I wouldn't have at that age though, my dad wouldn't have given me the go ahead and I wasn't as confident in my abilities either.

The positive here:  it is very empowering to "pass" on a deer or a shot and that feeling of being in control of the hunt will stay with the kid forever 

Plus that buck can grow and grow and grow as the story is retold
