26 nosler

So I walked into sport mens warehouse today and the had a browning xbolt 26 nosler. I have been wanting one for a long time so I got it.. does anyone have load data on these? What bullet they like and how many fps are you getting out of it. Thanks

I was just there last night eyeballing the 28 nosler, I might have grabbed that Xbolt had I known it was there! I think mama would have Kilt me though

fife has a stainless longer range x bolt in a 26 nosler to. I wanted the hunter so it was lighter in weight for hiking with..I will post pic when I get home. and oh yes I'm in deep doodoo right now. x mas came early.

Will do it won't be until December that I get to shot it. The wife has a late whitetail tag that starts the 1st-20th.

Nosler, browning and some custom shops are doing it..I think Montana rilfe company..Thats all I know of at the moment.

I tell my wife about everything I buy..I even showed her my new Benchmark Barrel for my 338LM Build.


I even asked her to put a "watch" on a Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56F1 on Amazon to see when the price drops.


But then again, she does make about $40k a year more than me.

Without at least a 28 inch tube and a 30 would be better, I see the 26 as not very efficient.  Now I see Weatherby is joining the party with a factory 6.5x300 Wby mag.

2labs, I'm curious, did you give any looks at doing a 6.5x47 Lapua before you decided on your Creedmoor??

The barrel life is not super great if you get them hot a ton 800 rounds. But its a hunting rifle  for me so it will make the rest of my life time..

My thoughts were affordable/available brass. 308 case head. Large rifle primer. Short action And ballistically there all close to the same. The other consideration is the 6.5 x55. Kinda have a game plan but Still up for debate, so lets hear it.

In my opinion, the 6.5x55 is better suited as a, game animal, hunting round.  Especially, if you plan to shoot the 140's and better yet would be the 6.5x55 Ackley Improved, which gives a pretty significant bump in case capacity.

The case capacities of these are, Creedmoor 53 grains water, 6.5x55 57 grains water, 6.5x55 AI 62 grains water.

Brass for the Creedmoor is $38 per 50 and the 6.5x55 is $82 per 100 for Lapua brass so price is nearly a wash but Lapua brass will easily out last the Hornady brass by a considerable amount.

If your barrel hasn't had a reamer stuck in it yet, for me, it's a no brainer, I'd go 6.5x55 or 6.5x55 AI and never look back.  Dies for the straight 6.5x55 would probably be easier to get than the "improved" version though.

We have 3 Patriots in 26 Nosler, ALL shoot close to half inch. Only round I have loaded so far is a 129 ABLR with 83.4grs of H50BMG (need a longer range to do a ladder test 100 yards had most of the holes to close together to get any real data). Now that hunting season is over we will be working other loads. Son used his to take his Moose this year at 430 yards with factory 140's, first shot went in just above the heart shattering the opposite leg bone and exiting, 2nd shot dropped him were he stood recovered that bullet under the hide opposite side. But that's another story that's coming with video of the shot.

sweet good to know.. I'm going to try and break it in one night after work next week. If I have time. We will see how it does with factory loads. until my brass comes here in a couple day and have time to load some.. Thanks for the info.

That's why barrels are threaded on instead of welded.

The only real shame is that there's no good factory ammo to take advantage of all that case capacity! Even the 142 ABLR is on the light side for this kind of case capacity. Somebody needs to load up the 160 Matrix bullets in some factory ammo!

The heavier bullet do me no good. The 129accubond will do me just fine. I want it as flat as possibly for deer and pronghorn hunting that is it.. I do not like shooting pass 600yards at animals. You  can always get closer. plus after that I will that my 338rum out of the safe..
