I have been doing the slow burn since last summer when someone took another person and went and shot up a couple rockchuck spots that I had located a few years back.

This individual knows of these two locations only because I had gotten the intelligence and had invited him along with me on a trip.  And after doing this he had the gonads to suggest that I turn him onto another spot that I and another individual had located a couple weeks after he had refused to go reconnoiter that property that I had intelligence on, even though we had been within twenty miles of that location.

There is a reason I prefer to take my own vehicle, other than it is a Lariat SCREW and I like to travel in comfort, when I am out in the field I try to follow up on leads and meet and develop relationships with property owners.  This clown said:  If you are not sure there are chucks there and that we can shoot them... I don't want to waste the gas and time.

So, I am thinking that I am going to "front load" these two locations and shoot them up, and I do mean shoot every last chuck I see, and shoot them very early in the season next year, like maybe even before May first (I normally shoot these two colonies until mid to late May) and then shoot them again a week later and shoot the heck out of them again.

Normally I won't shoot a colony up so much that I don't have good sport on that colony the following year and into the future, and that is what I did last year on these two spots and then I found out that this jerk had returned to both spots a week later and shot them up again after I had made it clear that I thought that enough chucks had been shot out of each colony last year.

Then after I have had my fun shooting these colonies up early and shooting them hard, posting the latitude and longitude coordinates online and sitting back and letting anyone who wants to shoot groundhogs, but doesn't know where to find any, show up and shoot every last cotton pickin' groundhog out of each of these colonies.   That way when the guilty party shows up next year... all he is going to find is scorched earth where once there was a healthy rock chuck colony.

Like he said when I called him on this transgression: the alfalfa farmers would be happy if I had killed every last rock chuck and said so when I went up and asked them if it was OK to shoot some more with my buddy.   OK fine, that being the case, I guess I will make him eat his words and totally wipe out the only two colonies he has any knowledge of before I move on and shoot the other colonies I shoot every year.

He doesn't have any other places to shoot rock chucks, and I have lots of other places.....

For some reason I very much enjoyed reading that, it felt like I was trapped between a suspenseful book , action movie and a rant. Good work

Is it even possible to shoot out a pack of whistle dogs?

I was hoping no one would pay attention to this.

Yes it is possible to shoot out a bunch of rockchucks.  Hunt them in April and shoot the females.

I had two big colonies of rockchucks I hunted over the years.   One ended up getting posted, or the access path to the spot got posted as more and more people moved to WA state.   The other was around WSU and had too many restless college students looking at them.

I had a shooting friend that wanted me to take him to my spots but I knew if I did he wouldn't leave until the last chuck had been shot.  He was the type he'd sit there until it had to come out of it's den.

I'm considering hunting chucks again but this time I will do it with a handgun.  This way I can shoot and shoot and still hunt the same chuck on return trips.

You bet it's possible.  You probably can't shoot them out, but you can shoot them down so far that it takes five or six years before they recover to the level that it makes it worthwhile to make a trip.

This guy would never have known about these two colonies, or any shootable population for that matter, if I had not shared their existence with him.  I have a good notion to return him to the same status he was prior to my generosity and I have the methodology to do just that.

To tolerate this transgression and not do something about it would be to encourage more of it and I have had a belly full of it.

He said that the alfalfa farmers would be happy if every last chuck were eliminated and that implies to me that this is what he intends to pursue.  Not if I get there first.

He might as well put his kit up for sale before chuck hunting season even starts, he won't be needing it any longer and will get the best price then.  There isn't a chance in a thousand that anyone in my gun club will ever leave Tacoma w/him again and it is pretty much a given that he is not going to do any scouting of development or future opportunity on his own.

I did.  I told him that it is an egregious transgression to return to someone else's chuck hunting spots without an invitation and his response was that he asked the property owner if it was OK and if it was OK with him he didn't see how I had any say in the matter.

I have never seen such chutzpah and to say that it was a jaw dropping experience would pretty well sum up my reaction.

Some western justice could be applied in this situation and he won't bother anyone's spot next time.

Just fed the heck up.  I put a lot of effort in and the intemperance is what I object to.  It is not like I have no recourse, but I wish I did not have to make toe Hobbesian choice between maintaining a friendship that goes back three decades and making it clear, in no uncertain terms, that what he did was unacceptable.
