Pearrygin Mule deer late permit (UPDATE Tag Filled)
« on: October 27, 2015, 08:26:52 PM »
Well Tag has been filled. Killed him on the 7th day of my hunt. Man it was a tag with ups and downs and thinking I should of killed a couple different bucks. I got there last sunday and started hunting Monday. Seen lots of deer with a nice buck on Monday that was tempting me pretty hard but couldnt do it on the first day. Seen alot more dink bucks Tuesday and my  cousin got there Tuesday night to hunt with me. On wednesday we drove a road and see lots of deer, as we were driving down the road we saw the buck I killed but honestly didnt think he was a super great buck so I passed him up twice that day.
There was new bucks moving in everyday and seen quit a few more 4pts in this area but no shooters. Thursday produced a lot more dink bucks and average 4pts. Friday same think but was starting to kick myself for not shooting that buck Wednesday, I told my cousin if we see that buck again im shooting him. Well friday and saturday were the same as rest of week, small bucks and average 4pts. Sunday we head up high where we have been seeing deer and nothing happended so we head down low to another area and decide to make another drive where we have been seeing all the deer, we drive in aways and talk to a couple other hunters and turn around to leave, we get down the road bout half a mile and I say buck, my cousin says thats the kicker buck so its time for action, we drive down a little more cause nothing is spooky in there and they go down into a little depression where we cant see them, i get out and walk over there and just see his antlers above the grass, well they seen me first and took off, I seen where they were running and pull up and shoot and hit him high in the leg but slowed him down, shot another time just as they went into the timber, We ran up into the timber where they went and he was about 40 yards in front of me broadside looking at me so one more shot through the boiler room did him in. We got up to him and there was definatly no ground shrinkage, he got bigger. MtnMuley was up there scouting for me and had this buck on video earlier that morning, soon as i called him and told him buck down he knew what buck it was. so he met us at our truck and walked back with me to check him out and helped us get him back to the truck. we got him back to the truck and all 3 headed back to camp to celebrate with some beers and skin the buck. We get him all skinned out and decide to throw the tape on him just to see, after 3 different additions on two different phones and two different additions on the paper we were all suprised that he grossed 180. I guess this buck was meant to be.
Gotta give a shout out to my cousin for taking time off work and hunting with me and using his cabin, he was leaving sunday night so I woulda been on my own again. He has 20 points also so I will be repaying the favor of tagging along.
And another shout out to MtnMuley, I just met him on this forum and let me tell you he is a first class guy, he came up and scouted for me on his time when he could and gave me areas to check out and glass and helped get the buck out. Hes welcome in my camp anytime. He even gave me a couple beers first time we met up there but I repayed the favor lol.
He was 25 wide main frame and 27.5 wide with the kickers.

They all got shot during modern this year. You didn't get the WDFW alert about cancelling all okanagen quality hunts due to over kill of bucks during the general season?

Oh man kirkl, didn't you hear they closed Pearrygin unit today for the remainder of the year due to the mass slaughter of general season deer? Tough luck bud, maybe you won't have to wait another 20yrs next time.

my cousin whos coming over tuesday to hunt with me drew the whitetail tag there last year and he never ran into a mule deer hunter. he did alot of driving to looking just looking at deer. probably be suprised by how many still hunt general season and fill there tags and eat the permit.

Good luck Kirk.  After waiting 20 years I am sure you will find a great buck. Had the tag back in 04. One of the best hunt experiences of my life.

Savor the moment👍
