Got to buy a gun.
« on: October 28, 2015, 01:09:18 PM »
We got robbed last week and the bad guys took a safe, small with a old 38 special revolver SW in it.

My insurance company says they will pay me $429.00 for the gun when I replace it.

So I have a budget. What should I get????

Not into mail order or internet.
Want new from dealer.
Something I can find easy.
Not into big bore .

Have cc and carry everyday.

I have a 9mm SVE auto
a Judge
22 Black hawk
another 38 /  older
22 SP 1
380 LCP auto
380 Bryce auto
40 cal SVE  auto

So what is your vote?????

Ruger LCR in 357 so you can shoot both .38 and 357.

Maybe a Ruger SR40C....fantastic pistol

A new safe?

Got that and bolted down good.

Has to be a gun they said.

Basically they allowed 200 plus for the old gun and added 200.00 appreciation for ten years. So if I don't buy a gun I don't get the appreciation money.

I been thinking of a Bond Snake Slayer. You can get barrels for most any caliber.

Anyone got one?

The fact you want to strap it on every day is the part that tricks me as I do not do that.
That being said I'm never far from my .45 Kimber with the pretty red dot.

My wife has a little 5 shot .357 that would be a nice daily carry??

Did you have a valueable property policy that covered the gun or did your home owners policy?

I like the S&W 640 for a semi-pocket friendly gun that's also serious enough to go on a belt. I'm not really a gun guy though.  :chuckle:

The LCR in .22 WMR, 9mm or .357

You mentioned a 22 black hawk did you mean a Ruger single six / single ten? If i were considering a Ruger single action i would look at the single six in 327 federal. It is able to fire 32s&w, 32h&R mag also. :)

I have the Ranger II which is the same thing. It's a fun little gun to shoot, even with full load .45s it's not too bad to shoot. 410 #4 shot is holds a good pattern to about 20 feet or so. Have not tested the 00 buck yet to see how it patterns and at what distances, but there is a chart posted somewhere that gives info that will be close.
The driving holster is good for in the vehicle, but I did not like carrying it in it hunting because the snap kept coming undone from different things, the gun fit the holster nice and tight and probably would not have come out, but I still did not like it coming undone. Ordering a regular belt holster for it which will make it easier to carry either on me or attached to my daypack.

I like the Ruger Blackhawk .357 with 4 5/8" barrel.  Tack driver that's easy to carry & looks great.  Nice sidearm when you are muzzy hunting!

Well I have mulled it over.
Going shopping for a Bond Snake slayer.

Own a judge and a Circuit Judge. So like the idea of same ammo.
Can get a 9mm barrel at half price till end of year.

Seen them in stock any where?

Yeah, Wouldnt be my primary carry. Which is a SW9ve  16+1.

I searched the county today. Hit every place that sell handguns. Found two. One was a Ranger (black grip)  The other i found at a out of the way shop was a Snake Slayer with the 3 + barrel.  I didn't buy it because for some reason I thought the Snake Slayer IV came with a little longer Rosewood Grips and the 4 + barrel.

But after checking their web site video they state the there is no difference in grips but only barrel length.

I might go back next weekend and pull the trigger on purchase.

Man the gun shops were busy today. Skagit Arms was standing room only and almost grid lock in there. They should have made that store bigger.

Only one shop kinda turned me off. They were nice and greeted me when I entered. When i asked for a Snake Slayer he said no but i can order it in for ya. I said all the shops will order it , I want to touch it.  " Than he said , Well a lot wont order it for you" That turned me off right then. Why inject negative comments into a conversation with a customer?

I have been buying guns in this county over 40 years. Most shops know me on site. And I know they would order anything I wanted when i dropped the money on the counter.
Something about his tone turned me off.

Thread Jack

The search continues.

Oh I did find out from the web site that if i buy one before the years end , I can get 50% off another barrel.

Doesn't surprise me how busy the shops are right now.  I'm looking for a 1911, but maybe I should wait until after the new year.

Well I was looking for the Snake Slayer II but none in my area. Well I found one in my area with the short barrel. But than I found the Ranger II and it comes with the driving holster.
The two are the same gun just different grips.
So I decided on the Ranger II and will change the grips later.
Bond is also giving 50% off another barrel if you purchase any Bond this year. So I think a 9mm or 380 is in my future too.

I was at Skagit Arms Sunday & there was lots of space to look around.  I was expecting it to be elbow to elbow.  I didn't see what I was looking for there, but then I found this.  Deal is about clinched for me... for under a 5 spot after rebate.   :)

My only complaint is the holster. I like it fine. But it is Velcro connect. The strap goes up under your belt and over the top to the holster. This puts the flap edge right on the center of the holster. easy to catch on stuff.

I think it would be better with a longer strap the secured in the trigger guard area.  ( See above.)

Been looking at these guns for a year. Walked by and winked at this one for a week before it winked back at me.

ordered 2.5 barrel in 380 yesterday. 4 week wait.

Next some Rose wood Grips.
