Found a Spot
« on: October 27, 2015, 11:04:50 AM »
This is my first year hunting deer, and soon elk. I am hunting GMU 336. I was fortunate enough to have a friend take me out the first weekend of Deer and give me a crash course. Outside of that I've been reading the heck out of posts, online articles, and asking a million questions when I'm with my buddies who hunt.

Last weekend I was out hunting/scouting and came across a spot a bedding spot that looks promising. I started my hike at 5:30am but didn't come across this spot until about 8am, several miles and over 1500' in elevation change. There was fresh sign and track. What all else do I need to learn about this site to know how and what time to hunt it?

Thanks for any advice.

Approach the area slower then you think you should, get the wind in your face as best as you can, mountain winds can swirl, and remember try to see them before they see you.  Sounds easy but takes years of practice to master.  Otherwise if you find nothing in that bedding area, stay over it and watch out with all the hunting pressure that unit receives you could have something get pushed to you.

I know 336 better than any other unit in the state. If you so choose PM me where you are trying to hunt and I can guide you from there..And don't worry Im not trying to steal your spot...

Got any thoughts on where to fill 3 cow tags in 336?  I was thinking Lookout Mountain area from the end of the 3300 road.  Also Fishhook Flats.
