Trapperguy22 and Bigshooter's 2015 - 16 trapping season
« on: October 31, 2015, 08:03:50 AM »
It's almost here.  I don't think we will be setting any traps until late November or early December but I'm starting to get excited.

After hearing from my buyer that 'rats were going to go for 3 to 4 bucks for fully primed skins, I think I'll walleye fish most of November.

Everytime I bring up poor rat prices to trapperguy22 I have to listen to him tell me about how many 1000's of rats he has sold for .25  cents when he lived in WI.  So 3 or 4 dollars a rat makes him drool.

The slow season continues for us.  We did catch a brown weasel today in a mink set and released him.  Forgot to take a pic.  Hopefully things start to pic up soon.

That first mink looks like a good sized one.  Seems like you you have a pretty good population of mink in your area. What kind of traps do use for them, ( pan trigger, or connibear) and what do you use for bait usually?

We use both triggers.  The one in the first pic was caught with a pan trigger and the second one was caught with a connibear.  We mostly use beaver meat and sometimes we will use a whole muskrat.  You will read a lot that mink like fresh bait but I don't think it matters.  We have caught mink in traps that have 2 week old smelly beaver meat in them.  I like the trap to be 7x7x24 but we catch them in bigger and smaller also.
