Question on WY st. helens permit
« on: October 19, 2015, 02:53:29 PM »
After striking out in the high country for the early archery elk season I picked up the WY permit to help a buddy of mine try to get his first elk during rifle season in the Winston. he is going to return the favor when i use permit to hunt the late anterless archery season down there.

I've spent some time down there with my dad before a long time ago, but does anyone know if you can get to Gate#550 or #560 from winston cr road or do you have to come in from Kid Valley on 1100? Looks like theres a chunk of land that isn't WY (assuming Port Blakely) so it might be gated? I am headed down there to scout soon just dont wanna drive wrong way and waste gas since i'm broke after buying the permit :-) Don't want to hassle calling WY either. I don't have a rifle tag so if someone gets one down in there and needs help w/ packout PM me and I'd be willing to help. I'm 32 years old decent shape. We plan on being there Nov. 7th - 11th and then the 17th-18th.

Thanks!

Whoops meant 7-11th and 14th-15th. And yes, we both have the permit.

Yes you can get there off the Winston Creek Rd. Turn left up the 3000 rd(it is past Longbell Rd.). Haven't been up there in a few years so cant help you from there.

Yes you can. Take Winston creek road to camp 9 road. Follow the main drag for about 8 or 9 miles then it will come to a three way T. Go left. You'll run into he 550. Just a heads up, I've hunted there for the last 5 years, and this was the first time I did not see a thing.
