I'm not much for collector guns but I had to have this one!
« on: October 28, 2015, 09:18:59 PM »
I make it a point to not spend money on collector pieces. All of my guns are tools which I intend to use as frequently as possible. This one caught my attention though.

Since I'm a big fan of the specialty pistols, this is sort of the Holy Grail of finds. It's a Remington XP-100 in 221 Fireball in probably 85-90% condition. The kicker is that it's in the original case, with the original cartridge box (empty though) and most importantly a 1963 manufacture. That's a first year production gun verified by both the barrel code and the serial number.

I happened to swing by the gun shop yesterday while I was working and they showed it to me. It just came in on trade so I have to wait 27 more days before I can pick it up. For the price it was an absolute no brainer! When I first saw it I instantly started coming up with ideas of what caliber to convert it to. Once I saw the serial number I realized that I probably needed to leave this one alone though. You better believe that that I'm going to shoot this sucker though. I have some brass and dies on the way already.

I have an almost identical one, still in case with box of brass, but the previous owner had scoped it at one point and cut the case liner so he could close it with the scoped firearm in it. I restored it to original sights and have 100 loaded rounds.
