Cow hunting 346 GMU
« on: November 03, 2015, 09:35:14 AM »
Fellow Elk hunters I need help. I drew my first cow tag for the 346 Little Naches area. I've been up the 1701 rd and walked in and out of the creek bed and deep ravenes scouting, but have come up empty. I have gone up high at about 4700 ft but me and my dad got snowed out and had to come back down. I have hunted Umptanum and Observatory and Cowiche, but never this area. Any insight into areas would be helpful! you can PM me if you want! Thanks!

I don't have any insights on that area but I can say stay after it.  Don't get discouraged and definitely keep hunting up until the last minute of the last evening, you never know when one is going to pop out, be ready and good luck to you.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I am going off of 410 onto the 1701 rd, am I too far down? Is Bumping lake in the 346 GMU? I've been there once, but it seemed really far away. Willing to do the work, just need to know where to go! All information is appreciated. I've hunted for 20 yrs and haven't gotten an elk...I need 1!

Go up Little Naches Road.  Or anywhere close to there off 410. Or from there to the pass.  There are elk everywhere there.  Literally.

No bumping lake is in the bumping lake unit 356.   Hunt the snow line.  keep eyes open.  theres alot of elk there  just have to get away from people and hunt hard.   its not an easy unit

I was just up 1701 the other day seeing friends at Pretty Cool Huh.  There are lots of cows.  Patience and know the area.  Bumping is not 346, it's 356.  Go up Gold Creek or Milk Creek.

End of the road or before on the 1906. Follow the river. Or find an advantage point overlooking the river. Tons of sign in there this summer and a lot of elk in there now according to a Co worker I talked to today.

I am digging up this post from almost 6 years ago...time flies when you're having fun! I wanted to let everyone who helped on this, that I took a big, almost 450lb cow that year and as a plus, my dad shot his spike too! An hour later than mine, and about 100 yards off of where I shot my cow. Love this forum, and again, thank you all!

Haha, to true, Apologies to everyone. ;) I know everyone was worried about it and it probably kept multiple people up at night. I just thought about it today and dug it up. Must be a slow Monday at work.

But it was a great hunt and this forum helped put me on them!
