trappers in eastern washington
« on: November 04, 2015, 09:55:19 PM »
hi there, I was wondering if there are any trappers in eastern Washington that would let me do a "job shadow" day,  I rode around with a friends dad in Montana and rode the trap line multiple times got to see everything in a trap except a bobcat. I am very interested in trapping and looking to venture on my own. but I was hoping for a mentor around Spokane that could show me the ropes of trapping here in Washington.  feel free to pm me so you don't have to give out your personal info to everyone. thanks again.  not looking to "know your spots" but just wanting to learn

I broached this subject with my trapping instructor,  basically it boils down to he took a few people out on his runs and was very open about it....now he's coming across their traps all over his runs and also vented quite a lot on people not being selective in what they release and over trapping.

It's going to be a tall order for someone to let you tag along too many trappers been burnt doing that.

yea I understand, I guess its chance the trapper has to be willing to take.  all I can do is offer my word stating I don't want to take their land, just want to learn.  being new and research only goes so far compared to actually hands on learning.  hopefully someone is willing to take a chance on me.

When I move back there next summer, I'd be happy to take you out.  I'll be trapping mostly in Idaho anyways so I will be happy to help you in Eastern WA.

Not trying to steal this thread but I just got into trapping bobcats last year and in good areas...would any trappers be interested in helping if we took you to our spots instead of going out on your trap line?
