Remington 783 .223 opinions
« on: November 10, 2015, 07:03:49 PM »
I've been wanting to get an accurate basic bolt action 223 in the $300 range for a while and from what research I've done, it sounds like the Remington 783 223 is the best versus the Ruger American and the Savage Axis. I read few bad reviews about the Ruger American (accuracy)  which kind of steered me away from that and the Savage sounds like the better rifle than that but the Remington has an adjustable trigger and sounds like a pretty consistent tack driver as well from what I've read. Does anyone own one and have any problems with it? Sounds like you can get sub 1" grouping at 100 with the rifle and scope combo right out the box.

If you can get sub 1" groups OTB for $300+/- then go for it. I've never had good luck with the scopes that come mounted on in the box rifles. I have shot several Ruger Americans 270, 308, 30-06 and they have all been tack drivers. The Savage guns also have adjustable triggers. I currently use a Mossburg MVP in .223, it will shoot sub 1" groups as well, has an adjustable trigger, and it uses AR mags.

783 in 30-06 shoots sub 1 inch groups for me and my son. Both with rem factory loads and hand loads.  With the rebate this summer I picked 'em up for $220 a piece including shipping and transfer fees.  Hell of a lot of rifle for the price.
