Well well well... looks like Jimmy gave up his hunting spot! I would recognize that rock with the lichen on it anywhere, and that dead lodgepole in the background. I stopped there to take a few pics of a big buck this summer... I know where I'll be hunting next year! :chuckle:   Seriously though... I kind of thought all he wanted to know was if it was as big as HE thought it was. If I am chasing a big buck and I hear that someone else got it I get a little disappointed too and I always ask to see it just so I can see how big it really is up close. It has never kept me from going back to the same area in the future either.

I get the no posting pics thing... I will never post a pic of a deer I harvest... I may tell the story but that's it... None of anyone's business what buck I kill...my close friends will know though for sure... But just as Id assume you folks wouldn't believe me if I killed a buck over 200" without pics... It's safe to say it's a normal response for someone to say prove it... Anybody can SAY they killed a masher...talk is cheap...

Alls iam sayin is this year was the last year you will hunt that buck. Mtnmuley knows his deer!

I'm ok with that.  Like I've stated already numerous times on this thread, If someone was lucky enough to take that deer this year, I'm happy as hell for them.  I'll admit that I was being a little too persistent in asking for pics and rubbing it in too hard about not receiving any but I was kind of joking around a little too. Sometimes people are a little too serious on these forums.   I can respect that not everyone wants to plaster their ugly mugs all over the internet and not everyone feels the need to show off the animals they take though. To each their own.  Anyhow, It seems like the general consensus is that he's a 160" deer.  I understand why and have learned a little about deer antlers. That was mostly the point of this entire thread...TO LEARN! of course I wanted to know if someone shot him... and man what a "S" show that turned into.  :chuckle:

I know mtnmuley if he says the bucks dead the buck is dead. And just because you saw somedeer in a basin once that doesnt really mean much. But have fun good luck!

Oh whats funny is that this isn't the first year that my group of hunting buddies has been on these bucks in that particular basin...Did I leave that out of the story?  8)

Look everybody  :hello: I'm not trying to have a pissing match here.  I was excited about this particular deer and genuinely wanted to learn a little about his score potential.  I had been thinking all along that he had to be 180" all day but I don't know about scoring and it was brought to my attention in this thread that he's missing his right G4 and that he has shallow forks and that he possibly would only net around 160".   I actually had to google what a G4 is. That's how much I don't know about antler configuration.

I do appreciate the positive comments and those who took time to educate me on this deer. I absolutely did not want this to turn in to what it did.  :sry:

There are several people in this thread saying the buck in question  is dead. It's not just MtnMuley saying it. I'm pretty sure what MtnMuley and everyone else who knows about this buck is doing by not posting pictures is showing the lucky hunter  who maybe has not given permission to post their pictures the respect they deserve to not have their pictures posted all over the Internet. That used to be common courtesy. Now with the advent of social media and whatever else, it's a big shocker and causes multiple pages of banter and allegations of pot stirring.  The responses in this thread are ridiculous if you ask me. If the hunter who killed this buck hasn't ok'd posting he pictures or he doesn't want to post someone else's pictures, then respect the guys wishes and let it go.
If MtnMuley says that buck is dead, then I'd bet the house that the buck is dead.

Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Steeliedrew's posts were just fine and he was very respectful in all that he said. I felt bad that a couple people were giving him such a hard time. He only asked if someone could post a picture if they had one. Not a big deal. Some of the comments directed at him were in very poor taste and unnecessary. There was no need to insult him over nothing. A few people keep saying to trust what mtnmuley says. Why? We don't know him personally. Just because he says that particular buck is dead doesn't mean it is. I'm getting tired of hearing that. If he doesn't have a picture or can't post it, thats fine. But there was no excuse for some of the things that he said.

Never thought I'd say this, but I gotta kinda agree with Bobcat :chuckle:.  Steelie's posts never came off aggressive or disrespectful to me.  He found a good buck and was excited about sharing it.  If I had history with a deer and someone claimed it was dead I would want to see it too.  If anything, just for closure.  LOTS of bucks all over the west with that antler configuration, I would be hard pressed to believe it was the same buck without seeing pics, AND pming with the lucky hunter to confirm area.

That being said, knowone should post others pics without permission.  That aint cool 8)
