M70 300wsm nosler accubond 180gr loads
« on: September 05, 2015, 03:40:11 PM »
I've been struggling to find a load that shoots with these 180gr etips so I quit and got some 180gr accubonds. I have imr 4350 to load behind it. What distance off the lands are you guys loading to?

Klikboom, I have a Savage Model 12 VLP chambered in 300WSM.  I haven't yet loaded for the 180AB but that is next on my list.  I have a sweet load for a Barnes TTSX 168 using RL17 and am working up a load with a 210 Berger using H4831SC (not yet range tested).  For the 180AB, The Nosler Reloading Guide 7 lists IMR4350 starting at 60 grains (2736 fps) and a MAX of 64 grains (2942 fps).  Velocities are from a 24" 1-10 twist, 4 groove HS Precision barrel.  The Nosler data is a good place to start.  Nosler lists Hybrid 100V as the most accurate power tested with the 180AB.  Hybrid 100V is readily available right now.  It's on the shelf everytime I stop by Sportsman's Warehouse.  You might consider running a ladder test with both 4350 and Hybrid 100V.  Accubonds typically shoot best with a 0.010 to 0.020 jump off the lands, but there are always be exceptions to this so if you don't get the results you want prepare to start experimenting.  Hope this helps.  CaNINE

I don't know anything about reloading but I can tell you a 180 Accubond in 300 WSM is a deadly combination. I have used Federal Premium and Nosler ammo and killed everything from small to eland and Shiras moose. Dead right there ass kicking good.

I took my 300wsm out to kenmore and did a ladder test from .020" off to .020" off the lands. I'm using a 10x power scope and the kenmore rest up front and used a bull bag on the rear. It wasn't super solid but did get a group under 1/2". The only bad part was I wasn't consistent enough to see a clear convergence and divergence. Would you guys just stick with the 0.040" off? All my shots were with the recommended lowest load, 60 grains. Would you try a new ladder test with increasing charges at the .040" off COAL? Do you try to squeeze every fps you can out of accubonds?

My M70 likes 63gr IMR4350 180gr accubonds at 2.81 OACL.   I had been struggling with this gun to find a good load and found that it likes more jump than jam.  Hope this helps.
