Quilomene quality buck hunt archery advice please.
« on: November 10, 2015, 06:29:21 PM »
I drew the Quilomene archery tag and I'm looking for any advice. is it better to focus up high or down low? i do have a wind farm permit and I'm going to do some more scouting after the 15th of november. have not been in there for about 20 years so any help i could get would be greatly appreciated.

I m hunting in Idaho right now but when is your tag?  I know the area well and saw one good buck last week during elk season. Hunt low. BTW

I hunted a small area but scouted alot of the unit. I shot this buck about 200 feet from where our freind got his rifle buck a week or so before. find does and you'll find bucks. I found it was much easier to hunt the timber pockets over sage brush. also that was where I found the larger bucks

Pretty good shot placement on a hard quatering deer.  Would like to know how far he made it with that shot.

I've never hunted it but from the pics it looks like good quality glass could help you in that area.

I'm planning on spending 3-4 days the first week and 3-4 days the second week. if i strike out I'm hoping to at least see a lot of animals
and stalk a few of them. i plan on taking my youngest son(he just turned 10)a few of the days. id like him to see why my older sons and myself love archery
so much and that getting into animals is just as good as bringing one home.

that shot was a follow up at 15 yards in his bed. my first shot hit just a hair back unfortunately. my first shot was 52 yards and he only went 80 yards and laid down. I just wanted him to expire quicker so I put the Second shot in him. he expired within two minutes of the second shot

I saw 4 good bucks that were all running does last weekend while elk hunting.  I was hunting wide open areas though so getting to most of them with a bow would be tough.  There's a fair bit of snow up there now though so it should be good hunting!

Great unit, with a rifle down lower in the open areas. A bow seems really tough to me. Lived in Ellensburg during college and spent half my afternoons up the Clk pass road. 328 on the left and 329 on the right. Right down to the river.  Am I missing something local boys? I know Quilomene as a nice winter range for elk, nice for muley's but it's a huge area, and don't recall much timber outside of the top area off CLK pass road which doesn't hold many deer during most the year. I might be wrong :chuckle:
