I am a huge outdoor edge fan. Also love my havalon. Have used both for a long time. Pros to the havalon is how small and versital it is and you can carry a ton of blades without weighing down your pack. You manually put the blades in place on a fixed piece. Huge advantage when talking long term use without wearing a knife components out. The outdoor edge is a little bigger for easier handling and a little sturdier on the design for heavier leverage on a blade. But the outdoor edge has a internal part that clips the blade into place that wears out. And when cleaning an animal fat and such will gunk up inside the blade cavity and clog up the area for replacing blades. And outdoor edge knives have a tendency to have screws loosen over time that you have to tighten. Like I said I like both but after extensive use I would have to put my money on the havalon.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

outdoor edge , gave both my havalon's away after using it.  haven't had a chance to try the titan yet, looks promising.

I popped a lot of joints with the havalon w/o breaking a blade but I don't use it like a pry bar.  I just slice in the right spots then bend the joint to get the tendons in the middle with the tip of the havalon.

I like to split pelvis's in the field though and the havalon is certainly not up to that.  I could just tie and pull through but I've split them for so many years it's just my preference.

I used the Havalonpiranta last year, worked up two elk and a deer with it including caping and turning the face. Worked great but needed a fixed blade for popping joints and working the hide from around the base of antlers. Used the Titan this year and it was perfect for me. I've never had an issue changing blades and usually go through 5-6 of them per critter to maintain a super sharp blade. Haven't tried the outdoor edge but know a few guys that run them and love them. Still wonder about popping joints with them as I don't carry a bone saw. I think you will be happy with either.
5 or 6 blades per animal :yike:  I just about do a whole elk with 1 blade.

That's what I was going to say! I broke down my entire deer from start to finish (field dressed, skinned/quartered, and boned out at home) with one blade.

I got the Havalon Titan this year and will never use another knife. I pulled out the folder to cut some of the heavier joints, worked great.

Only complaint was last night when I was working on the head getting it ready for cooking this weekend, I did break 2 blades, but I learned quickly how much flex is to much flex and then had no issues. I don't know what people are saying about difficulty changing blades, I have no problem doing them by hand, I can see a pair of pliers being safer though.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

I've used my Razor's Edge Pro (with the gut hook) on a deer and a couple of elk so far with one blade change. I actually had the Piranta in my pack also but it's just there because I have trouble parting with a knife.

Right. You don't "need" a knife to pop joints. Know what you're working with and you'll do fine with the Havalon. I've done 2 whole deer with mine and broke 1 blade. No saws, no nothing other than the havalon. I do not Like changing the blades on the Havalon. It's mildly terrifying. I haven't tried the outdoor edge one but maybe I should.

I have both and I like neither. I use them for a little bit and get tired of them in a hurry. I always find myself in the pack grabbing the cutco. Far seperior knife that never dulls and never breaks!

A lot safer without a pair of pliers! Just the push of a button. I saw some place that havalon has a new tool out that is used for changing the blades. Looks like a credit card but a little thicker. You are not the only one they scare, so much so that they made a new tool cause they hear it a lot.

Certainly doable with less... I figure if I am using a razor blade I might as well keep it razor sharp. I put the used blades back in the foil then back in the sheath then dispose at home.
