dreaming of guns
« on: January 19, 2009, 07:24:20 PM »
I spend alot of time behind the wheel at work and radio gets old so I spend my long drives dreaming of custom rifles and revolvers. Recently I have fantasized of 4 custom rifles 3 identical in every aspect except for caliber and one very near the others except for a couple slight diffrences. I would build 3 identical rifles in the following calibers, .223, 7mm-08, 338 federal these 3 rifles would handle just about every hunting scenerio I would have them all built on remington model 7 actions with 20" lija barrels, mcmaillion stocks, all would wear identical leupold vxIII 2.5x8 scopes and all would have there triggers tuned to 3lbs.The 4th would be on a remingon model 7 in 300wsm it would have a 24" liga barrel and a leupold 4.5x14 scope it would also have the mcmallion stock and a 3lbs trigger. the first three would all be identcal so no matter what the game the rifle I chose I would be intimatly familliar with. The forht is because I guess I'd need a rifle for long range as the other big game rifles are modest range rifles. There ya have it thats my dream rifles...... this week ;)

Sounds like you have a lot of time to dream,  :chuckle:

My dream rifle is one I would build, although I am not sure it would ever see the woods.  I have a piece of exhibition grade tiger striped maple to build a stock out of.(looking for someone that does rough inletting on wood stocks)  I would want it in either .308, .338 federal or wildcat of somekind.  Built on a Sako action with a match grade barrel(still thinking of which brand)  I am thinking something with a heavy contour, since the maple will weigh a ton anyway.  I would use Purple Heart for the forend tip and grip cap, for contrast with the maple.

Remington should make the model 7 left handed!!! In .338 federal, with a light wieght stock, stailess barrel . And the luepold 2.5-8 power scope. That would be the ultimate close medium range backcountry elk rifle.   I want one!

I would love to have either a .270 or a .25-06 built off a rem 700 action, Hart barrel, jewell trigger, McMillan stock, and a Schmidt and Bender scope with Darrell Holland's ART in it.

Huntbear,
Send the wood to Joel Russo and have him inlet it for you.  He does awsome work and very inexspensive.  He "machines" his stock on a CNC machine.  I have one and they look awsome.  All you have to do when you get it back is finish it how you want it.

norsepeak, where and how do I get ahold of Mr. Russo???  I am slowly getting everything together to start work on this, and really the stock inlettling was the last thing I needed to find a way to get done,

Surgeon Actions if price is no object otherwise Remmy 700's
McMillan A5 Stocks w/adjustable butt plates and cheek pieces
Schmidt & Bender PMII Illuminated Scopes w/34mm main tubes in Seekins rings

The only rifle to not be a 700 would be the .22 LR in Remington 547

How's that for a wish list?
