tip of the day{calling the boss hen}
« on: January 20, 2009, 03:59:15 PM »
one tactic ive had success with on henned up toms. is calling the boss hen. sometimes ahen will really start piping. i imitate her every call.and call louder if she does.cutting her off really pisses her off too. also use sharp cuts and cackles. ive sucked in alot of toms that way over the years that were with hens. she will come in looking too kick some tail. alot of times bringingthe entire flock with her. if the situation warrants and a hen starts talkin back give it a try.  thanks for your time    strut

strut that is very true. i have seen it happen many times. just like you said i try to just immatate what she is doing and piss'n her off and that brings her in and that gobbler is rite behind her. most  of the time he comes in not makin hardly any noise and is just following that hen.great tip strut

I had a tom hened up for 2 days. I set up close to him and he would go to his boss hen. The third morning I set up on the ridge above him. At day brake I wound him up like a Timex. This hen came in about a 100 yds across a draw and went to him. She was yelping and cutting the whole way. I kept cutting at her and the tom would gobble every time. He shut up and I assumed she was with him. I kept calling with different calls. About 45 min. went by and this hen topped the ridge right in front of me at about 10 yds. 1, 2, 3, 4, hens and here he came in tow. As soon as he cleared, I gave a loud cut and he popped up his head. Bang game over.
